Peggy Wallace Kennedy

       Peggy Wallace Kennedy came to the school today to honor Martin Luther King. What he did was amazing and will never be forgotten in this country. Mrs Kennedy is the daughter of 2 governors, her mother and father both served as the Alabama governor at different times. She told us that her father ran for governor as a supporter of integration at first, and lost. Then he ran again as a racist and won. She told us that her father believed in things that many Americans believed in. However she believed she could make a legacy in the White and Black history together. She talked about how hard it was growing under the shadow of her father who believed in such segregation, and how so many times she wanted to say something and make a stand against it. It was not until her older years when she decided she was going to be an important figure in the Civil Rights movement. Dr. King's dream was to see a little white child and a little black child holding hands on the Alabama capital's steps. Mrs. Peggy Kennedy and Mrs. Bernice King made that happen, and they are proud of what they have shown this state, and country. Their legacies will live on forever under Martin Luther King's dream, and the battle against segregation.
