Civil Rights Act of 1964

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 completely banned discrimination regarding to the race, color, religion, sex, or national origin of every person in the United States. It prohibited separate public places, depending on all of the above, it prohibited segregation of the school, and the limited right to vote.

I do believe that there are still illegal behaviors discriminating people. I do believe that there is not a lot of discriminating behavior, like in the 60's and before, but I do believe that it still happens. For instance the KKK is still trying to prove that whites are the all power, sovereign race, and they believe that they can still shoot all other races down. I believe that these people are still out discriminating due to the power they feel that they once had, or the power they take in their nationality. I think they take their power way too far, and do something that is no where near acceptable. I believe that these issues should be dealt with as soon as possible. I think that the people discriminating should be sentenced to life in prison, because one it is illegal, two it is immoral, and three it is not fair at all.

The movie honestly made me more than sad. It makes me feel so insanely awful for what these people once did. I can't even process how awful these whites treated the blacks. I truly do not know how they did the actions they did, and finishing the actions they once started. It makes me sick to my stomach to see all the images of the fire hose and especially the bombing. Watching and hearing about how awful people near my community were makes me want to do something. I am just happy that our country finally saw that what was happening was completely unfit, and not fair. The fact that these actions and feelings went on for so long, and nothing happened is sickening. I am really excited to go to the museum and especially the church. I know it is going to make me very somber but it is really eye opening to be in the places where such awful things happened. It makes you feel so helpless and so embarrassed for the people who did what they did.

This picture shows all the right things to me. It shows what our country was supposed to be, even though cities near us were going completely against it. It shows how strong these people were and what freedom meant to them.

- Seventh Annual Convention Alabama Federal of Women's Clubs
- Held clubs all around Alabama to discuss the clubs
- Talked about such committees as; Literary, Progressive Culture, Saturday Club, Music Study, Athens Study, Huntsville Study, Huntsville Culture, Huntsville Women's,
- All meetings were held in Woman's Club Rooms
- Luncheon in private dining room of Twickenham Hotel
- The president of Alabama Federation of Women's Club is Mrs J. Brevard Jones

- Saturday Club
- Held in a home, subject title was "The Needs of Albany Decatur"
- They read several articles
- There was a piano solo
- They had club guests
- "Delightful punch salad was served"

General Federation of Women's Clubs
- Still Alive today
- Has an annual convention on June 23-26 in Palm Springs, CA
- Has receptions

Taking Away:

I think that it is important to see how stuff that is important to us today, was like almost 100 years ago. I think Women Clubs are something awesome that our country has had for 126 years in our history. The clubs allowed a place for women to discuss what was important and what was going on, in their opinions. Over time these clubs have been classified as a social experience, a country changing experience, and to this day the most important, a volunteer experience. It is cool to see how big the clubs were during the progressive era and how the progressive era led to more and more clubs. It was something new, and exciting, that every popular women wanted to be involved in. From the Anniston newspapers I looked at, there was something about the Women's Clubs in almost all of the newspapers. Everyone wanted to know what was happening in the clubs, and everyone in the clubs wanted everyone to know what they were discussing and what they were doing. Women's clubs are linked to progressivism because before this era, they were not possible. Women were expected to take care of the house and that was it. However, when this time period came around, women were allowed to be social, they were allowed to be in the social scene. Women Clubs were pretty much the first aspect and social scene for women in our United States History.
